The rotator cuff is a series of four tendons that control the shoulder’s rotation and stabilization. Injury and degeneration are the two main causes of rotator cuff tears. A bad fall or sports injury can cause a muscle tendon to pull away from the bone. If you can’t recall an accident or injury that caused the onset of your shoulder pain, you may have another type of rotator cuff injury called tendinosis. This is when a tendon gradually wears down over time due to ageing or over-use.
Rotator cuff injuries vary in severity. Sometimes wear and tear of the joint surface, known as shoulder arthritis, is associated with tendon damage.
The precise injection of pre-differentiated stem cells into the affected tendons and the joint space provides new material to repair, rebuild and remodel damaged tissue, thereby relieving pain and improving function.
COMMON SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS
With a rotator cuff tear, pain is centered around the front corner of the shoulder and radiates outwards into your neck, back, or upper arm. You may have limited movement and be unable to lift the affected arm up in front of you.

Moviglia Method therapy is a simple and effective procedure completed in a single outpatient visit. Here’s a step-by-step guide to what patients can expect:
EVALUATION PRE-TREATMENT
Before starting cell therapy, patients undergo a clinical evaluation that is complemented with MRI or ultrasound assessment.
HARVESTING
Two types of cells are needed for the treatment: stem cells and tissue-specific effector lymphocytes. The stem cells are extracted from subcutaneous fat, which is done by performing a micro liposuction procedure that only needs local anesthesia. Immune cells are obtained from the patient’s peripheral blood.
CELL PROCESSING
The collected fat is processed to isolate and expand the stem cells.
The combination of stem cells and tissue-specific effector lymphocytes facilitates the pre-differentiation of the stem cells into the specific cells needed to repair the damage.
CELL APPLICATION
The pre-differentiated stem cells together with tissue-specific lymphocytes are injected into the damaged tendons and, if it is nessesar,y into the joint space. The procedure is performed using local anaesthesia under ultrasound guidance.
Most patients can resume their normal activities with minimal interruption. A slight swelling or mild discomfort at the injection site may occur, but these symptoms typically resolve within a few days, allowing for a smooth recovery.
Depending on the severity of the damage, patients may need one or two injections of stem cells. Control images will be taken after this period to evaluate the process. If deemed necessary, the treatment can be repeated.
RESULTS
The tendons respond very well to the stem cell treatment. In most cases the pain disappears completely, and full mobility is restored. In addition, control images show a recovery of the quality of the damaged structures.
